📢THE DIGEST
Ankeny Art Center Is Ready to Grow
The Ankeny Art Center has outgrown itself. More than 35,000 people have participated in classes, exhibitions, and events over the past three years — and about 90% of classes are at capacity with students on waiting lists. The organization has announced plans for a new $4.5 million, nearly 10,000-square-foot facility at 315 Cherry Street in Uptown Ankeny, near the High Trestle Trail. The new building would include additional classrooms, expanded pottery studios, a larger gallery, and a community meeting room. Organizers want the new facility to contribute to Uptown’s ongoing revitalization. “It’s old Ankeny, and it’s just kind of going through a resurgence,” said board president Steve Van Oort. About $2.1 million of the $4.5 million has already been raised. Groundbreaking is targeted for fall 2027 once fundraising is complete.
📰CIVIL NEWS
Candidates Come To Ankeny
With Election Day less than three weeks out, a roundtable in Ankeny on Wednesday brought together union leaders, workers, and candidates running for Iowa attorney general, the Iowa House, and Dallas County supervisor. Rather than campaign speeches, the event focused on financial concerns from working Iowans — cost of living, grocery prices, and wages that aren’t keeping pace. Candidates across the races said they’re hearing the same themes from voters. Early voting in Polk County is already underway with high turnout reported on the first day.
